Learn Thai With Mod: Thai Language Series 14 – Bangkok Podcast (1.63)

2017-10-18T21:48:01+00:00

On today’s show, we’re happy to be joined by Mod, who is a Thai language instructor. We wanted to see what it’s like for a Thai person to teach Thai to foreigners, and she gives us some interesting insights into what problems we all have, how we sound to Thai ears, and how our native accents affect our speaking ability.

We also talk about how what you *expect* to hear can sometimes have a bit of influence on what you *do* hear, why it’s okay to shun Greg for his use of old-fashioned Thai that instantly reveals him as an old geezer, and the difficulties of pronouncing the Swahili word ‘mxosa’.

There is also a VERY IMPORTANT announcement regarding the future of Bangkok Podcast, which you may even be able to play a part in.

Sorry Greg, we don’t do Canadian accents :p

    With love from Australia,

    E

PS Is it preferable to be confused with Americans or Steve Irwin? 😛

good program again and a charming guest, wished she talked a bit more about herself, how she learned english, and if learning another language helped her become a better teacher.

quite a shocker that tony is leaving for japan. was the fact that japan is receiving less tourists a factor for getting the visa expedited? is tony going to start a japan podcast now? but i have no doubt greg and co. will continue doing excellent programs.

Week after week I’ve enjoyed your podcast. I’m sad to hear you’re leaving Tony, but only to bigger and better things of course! I don’t think I have a radio voice, but I’ve wanted to give it a shot ever since I fell in love with Sportcenter as a teenager. Too bad I’m half the world away from BKK. Mod was awesome too. Thanks!!!

I haven’t even got this far in the podcasts yet, I’m listening to podcast 47 now on my night shift. But dammit Tony, I knew you would be leaving, your love and lure to Japan always seemed too much.

I’m really enjoying your podcasts, I’ve been listening to all of them for the last 2 weeks trying to catch up to the latest releases. Megan from BRS recommended your podcasts as I’m moving to Chiang Mai in August and although you dudes chat aboot BKK it’s been real helpful.

I’d love to get involved but I’m not even in Thailand yet, I hope you find someone to Join in with Greg and have the same geeky sense of humor that you both share!

This program is very useful for foreign people who want to visit Thailand. At glance, seems like Thai language is very hard to learn, I can’t wondering if I go to Thailand soon 😀 Btw, thanks to podcast and especially to Mod for making this.
